Frank Ocean has defeated the libel lawsuit filed by his father, Calvin Cooksey, Law360 reports. The lawsuit stemmed from a 2016 Tumbler post by Ocean, where he discussed Cooksey’s use of homophobic slurs. Cooksey claimed that the attention from the post cost him “future financial opportunities,” and sought damages to the tune of $14.5 million.
U.S. District Court Judge Stephen V. Wilson found that Cooksey “failed to meet necessary elements to make his defamation claim.”
Frank’s attorney, Keith Bremer, confirmed the ruling to Pitchfork. “I am sorry that my client had to go through this and am glad that we could bring closure,” he said.
